Cider & Stampin Fall Projects Creative Class

Hello! We had a lovely time last night enjoying fall themed snacks and drinking cider punch while getting to know new and old friends. Here are the projects we made:

We did a candle wrap, 2-way embossed card, little treat bag for Halloween and a Nugget Box for Thanksgiving.

I was really happy with the way the nugget box turned out. I plan to sell these at upcoming craft shows. This particular one includes 6 Hershey nuggets wrapped with our new holiday themed "It's a Wrap Holidays" stamp set. There is an additional one in the main Idea Book for occasions like baby & bridal showers, birthdays, etc. You stamp the design on a regular return address label {like Avery 5160} and just peel and stick around a Nugget. Super cute, quick & easy.

Everyone seemed to really like the thin little treat bag, which could be used for so many occasions and holidays! At $2.50 for 50 bags, it's a steal, too.

This class could easily be duplicated in your home with your own friends. If you would like to host your own Cider & Stampin' class, please contact me!

Today, I am continuing my "Series" of simple cards. These feature the 2-step Bird Punch from Stampin' Up. I love this punch and use it all the time. I think the fact that you can interchange the punched parts when you punch it out of different colors of cardstock or our two-sided Designer Series Paper, lends itself to an elegant composed but coordinated look.

The chunky & glass glitters add just the right touch, too.

We All Scream for Ice Cream ~Triple Scoop Card

Who doesn't like Ice Cream? What's your real life favorite? I love all things Oreo and mint. But, my favorite time of year is the fall when Pumpkin ice creams come out. John will sweetly drive me 30 minutes to the opposite side of town so I can get a waffle cone scoop of one of thier pumkin varieties. I think my fave might be Pumkin Praline Cheescake. Can you tell I am counting down until October when they arrive?!

Enough about me and my Ice Cream Obsession, now to the cards..

Yesterday I posted a quick & easy card using the new Pennant collection from Stampin' UP.

Isn't that clever? I would love to take credit for it but I saw numerous examples from a variety of demonstrators. It is so nice to have a community of creative people to be inspired by all the time!

Here are 2 similar cards I did, the only difference is the type of glitter I used.

I wish I had taken a better close up for the glitter. It didn't quite catch their glimmer and chunky factor. Sorry about that.

You could do this for a lot of the other flavors, too. I can totally see Mint Chocolate Chip being done.

I like this basic template for quick & easy cards, too. Can you see the similarity?

If you can get a basic template in your head, it doesn't matter the color scheme or final decorative pop, they will be easy to create and come out pleasing to the eye.

Again, as I said in yesterday's post, these are quick & simple cards I am showing because I truly believe that at least 90% of stampers prefer these quick projects. At least I bet my mommy friends would!

And remember, if you are going to make 1 of these cards, make 10! It takes about the same time to cut, stamp & assemble and then you have a nice little stash!

Here are a couple of cards that I came up with in a hurry using this easy coordinating products.

This is a very versatile set that can be used for a wide variety of occasions. I love sets like that!

And though you could cut out the plain flags, why would you when you have this fun matching punch?

I tend to try to show more "project" type items on this blog but I realized that most people probably make cards more than anything since they are easy to accomplish.

So they next few posts will be showing some of the simple cards I did recently for a large order of greeting cards from a sweet lady at church.

I know there are "masterpiece" cards out there that are amazing. But honestly, most of the gals I know are not going to spend an hour on 1 card {or hours/days on 1 project} so let's get back to the basics.

Tomorrow, I am going to show you a card using part of this punch and another to combine and make the cutest little card accent.

Make Your Own HandCrafted Coordinating Drink Umbrellas

Who doesn't love a little flair in their drinks?

We had a Babies & Bunco ladies night for our Sunday Connect class to celebrate the mommas that had a baby since we had started the class. With a class for Parents of Preschoolers, we figured there were a lot of showers in our future if we did one for each momma so we decided to do a group celebration instead. Eventually we will do this quarterly or twice a year. Anyway, we wanted to keep the decorations gender neutral so I went with Stampin' Up's color, Crumb Cake. I didn't have Designer Series Paper in that color so thankfully, with My Digitial Studio, I could just print out a wide variety of designs with this color. That is the {one of many} nice things about that program because you have an endless suppply of designs & colors that can be instantly printed without the delay of purchasing and waiting.

My co-party-coordinator, Jennifer, asked if we could make umbrellas to coordinate with the Congratulations banner. I hadn't caught that was the "new" thing but thought it was a fun idea. Anything with paper, I am on board! I should have known about them. After I made them, I happen to notice one of the featured cover projects of the latest Summer Mini Catalog had them on it. Way to go SU for being up with the trends, even if I was clueless. ;)

I had to use my Sizzix, well, because I have one and it makes things so much quicker and easy. I did find a nice tutorial of a gal that did them using the old plastic stencil and scissors way and it is here.

Here is my quick tutorial on them.

I punched out the largest scallop circle from Scallops Circle #2 Bigz Die then cut a slit up to the center.

I used hot glue because of the fast set up and the stiffness makes me think it is more sturdy.

I just lay the edges over each other till the edge kind of matched up. Some cut out a small triangle..either way would work I bet.

Next I used a dab of hot glue in center of the inside of the umbrella to adhere the lollipop stick. You could also use small wood skewers {less expensive}.

Cars & Princess Aurora Clipboards Custom Order

This is just a quickie to share a recent custom order.

I create and sell a lot of stationary gift sets utilizing the smaller memo clipboards. But this mom had the idea for me to create a decorated regular size clipboard that her kids could color on during their long road trip up north.

The funny thing is that I had the same idea that morning when Jesse was trying to color on my mom's mini clipboard while at the doctor's office. He kept having to turn the coloring page so it would be on the paper..frustrating. So, great minds think alike I guess. And here is what I came up with based on the characters for each child.

The trick was I couldn't embellish much since they were coloring on it so I didn't want much raised to mess with their finished projects. Plus, it was for kids after all and too much would probably be pulled off, at least it would be with mine. :)

I kept the designs pretty simple. Normally, I would have used some Designer Series Paper but didn't have any in this color scheme. Plus, I thought the princess stood out better with the solid cardstock colors.

I stamped her name and highlighted with a glitter pen. Chunky Stampin' Glitter was used for the center of the flowers.

I stampes the finished back to coordinate with the front.

For the Cars board, I inked up some different wheels from a variety of monster trucks, cars & firetrucks that Jesse had. :) Perfect background for a Cars Clipboard.

Vroom!

I added little scallop squares of ink to spotlight or shadow behind the pictures. I thought they needed a little pop of some sort.

Obviously, I toned down the ribbon factor but I thought the help added a little something to the rustic feel.

Adoption Finalized ~Let's Celebrate! Cupcake Toppers

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law were blessed last year to finally have their arms filled after years of heartbreaks and waiting.

This week, his adoption was made final and it was definitely a time to celebrate!
My mother-in-law baked the cupcakes and asked me to come up with a topper for them. I {of course} turned to my go-to program, My Digital Studio.

I set up 4 of his pictures within square "digital punches" filled with the Designer Series Papers that come with MDS. That way, after printing, I knew I would have it spaced enough to use my 2 3/8 scallop circle punch. I shadowed the circle of the photo so it might give the appearance of being layered.

For the backs of the cupcake topper, I created some with a saying "For this child I prayed" from the passage in 1 Samuel 1:19-20. Others with "Our Little Blessing" and then a couple different little animals. My MIL wanted the colors to be bright so I used Crushed Curry {the yellow} and Tempting Turquoise for the digital stamping of the animals as well as the background papers and solid colored "real" cardstock.

I had them printed as an 8 X 10 at Sam's. It is slightly higher than Staples but is much thicker since it is photo paper. It also won't run/smear should it get wet with icing or whatever it is put in.

Then I punched them out, mainly using my 2 3/8 scallop circle punch and 1 3/8 circle for the animals.

I layered where needed on solid colored cardstock to coordinate.

Next I used hot glue to adhere the fronts and backs to the sucker sticks. Some say to use tape but not only is hot glue faster, it is also stronger, in case anyone chose to keep it like a souvenir.

I got these sticks at Walmart, 50 for $2. Wooden skewers would have been just as tall and half that price. Either would have been fine, though, and these got the job done.

Blooming Birthday Party~ Flower Sucker Favors and Banner

A friend of mine recently asked me to make a flower banner & sucker favors for her child's birthday. After we figured out the shape she wanted and colors, I got to work.

I did not have pink & purple Designer Series Paper in real life and actually didn't have it digitally from Stampin' Up either. So using My Digital Studio, I created designs using our various pink and purple hues that would match the solid color cardstock I did have in real life. This program made it easy by allowing me to "stamp" many of the different flower designs in whatever colors I wanted, along with the "punches" in circles and such. See the brilliancy of using My Digital Studio is that you have whatever color you want, both in ink and in paper! That is not always the case in "real life". I was able to also use some of the included-with-MDS already made Designer Series Digital Paper designs, as well. To clarify, all of this is often called "scrapbook papers" if the SU term Designer Series Paper is throwing you off.

I created the letters to punch out, too. The all-one-color designs come with MDS, the others are what I designed myself.

I am not gonna lie. Creating background designs is not quick and my computer chose to run slow the night I was working on them. But in the end, I was satisfied with the finished designs. Also, I now have "scrapbook paper" that is pink & purple should anyone ask me to make another project with those colors. :)

I then sent the background papers and the letters I created for the banner to my local Staples. To print them on my printer would have zapped my ink supply and definitely not looked as good! I had them print on cardstock for the designs and glossy for the letters. I learned after the designs were printed that the cost difference was about 10 cents. Next time, I would probably do all glossy.

I used Scallop Circle #2 to cut out the letters.

Here is a video I took showing my Sizzix Big Shot cutting out the letters. I figured some people have never seen it in action. Forgive me. I am learning. :)

Next I cut out the flowers using the Flower Folds die to cut the flowers for the spaces between the words on the banner and for the sucker favors.

You can lay about 2 sheets of paper at a time with the this die because of the scored folds. If you do more than that, it will often cut where it should fold. And you don't want that! For the dies that don't have a score line, 4 sheets is usually good, depending on the weight of the paper.

I did a variety of cardstock for each flower.

After they are cut out, there are often corners that might go to waste. I am very frugal with my paper so I punch the center of my flowers from this area when I can.

I think hot glue works great to give a little height and stability.

I let it set a few second before I lay it on the next one so it doesn't sink it but sits up.

Thankfully, the mom took a picture of the finished product with the suckers in the center. She cut a little X in the center and pulled them through. I think they turned out great!

Now back to the banner. I cut the squares [the mom's chosen shape for the banner] and felt they needed a little something so I ran them through with a variety of my embossing folders.

She also wanted them tied together instead of one long string. So I sat down and did that my the hubby and I watched a movie.

She took a picture of the full banner and I hope you can see the cuteness.

I wish I had taken a close up of the letters and flowers spacers. To add depth on the letters, I actually took leftover squares of the fleece I used to make the Flower T-shirts a couple of weeks back. I glued them to the squares and then the letter circles to the fleece squares. Had I taken a close up, you could have seen the nice height. I like height and depth. Can you tell? ;)

And by request, I kept the name separate so if her little sis ever has a pink & purple party, only her name need be created. I like that!

Blooming Quilted Flower T-shirts - Using your Sizzix with Material

Hello! Who doesn't love a handcrafted gift, especially if it was custom made for them?

What does a one year old really need?

Up popped inspiration and I decided to come up with this design to work on with my mom.

Hope you like it and try it for yourself!

Credit where credits due: My upline with Stampin Up, Beckie Kareck, created a tutorial to share with her downline on making Layered Fabric Flowers using the Stampin Up! Exclusive Sizzix Flower Folds XL die and the Sizzix Big Shot quite awhile back. The original design was from Jill Olsen, who was part of pioneering Stampin UP into the fabric world and opening up so many other options! Thank, Jill, for a great idea!

This project was made for twins on their first birthday. Their parents are dear friends and the "Lemonade & Sunshine" party was fantastic!

So, onward, here is my journey with this project:

[Design outward] Fabric + Quilt batting + fabric [again, design facing outward]; Cut with Sizzix die; sew around the edge about 1/4" in= puffy flowers. I did these using this techinique pictured below. They are {coordinating} hair clips that I clipped to the bag for an added pop.

The letters on the bag were made with My Digital Studio. I just love that program!

Here is what we altered from the above idea for the t-shirt.

I noticed the quilt batting was still visible. Not a big deal but I was pondering about other options, when my mom suggested fleece since it is puffy [like quilt batting] but comes in a huge variety of colors [like felt] that could coordinate with whatever fabric I went with for their flowers. Happily, it was on sale at JoAnn's.

This is what they look like just cut out. Because this die has "scores" or creases, you can't cut as many layers and with some of the other dies. I cut 2-3 at a time.

With the thicker fleece, I did 2 at a time. Just lay it over the part of the die you want. This die has 4 flowers to choose from.

Easy peasy and ready to applique as is, but we have more planned!


This is my test layout plan/idea of how I want it to look before the flowers were "quilted". Wanted to see how it might look.

Now I send it to my mom's because her sewing machine was already set up. She loves to do this kind of thing. I want to get my feet wet with sewing, rather than having my mom carry out my ideas. I brought my grandma's sewing machine form Ohio that she & my mom made my baby clothes on. Hoping to carry on that tradition.

In fact, we carried the machine into my work area, got it all set up, only to realize the bobbins and threads and other necessary items were not on it and packed in some other box. So she took the project back to her house to complete the steps needed. Oh well, another day I will learn that.

So after she sews it, it looks like this. I only wanted the bottom flower sewn to the shirt [and the rick-rack stem and leaves].

These are the other flowers that she sewed around the edge. We did a funky color on purpose since the designs are whimsical.

I sewed the flowers together by sewing on the button. I wanted the other layers to be more 3-D/floppy.

Back to the gift bags, I made a tag with their lower case initial to hang on the other side [using MDS].

I added this little pop to the back of the tag and some glitter since everything could use a little glitter. ;)

Custom Order Hybrid Wedding Card

As I am {still} in the moving process, not all of my stamps and inks have made it over to the new house. But my neighbor and friend asked if I could come up with a "special" card for her niece's wedding this weekend. As wedding cards lend themselves greatly to customization, I turned to My Digital Studio once again and created a "hybrid" card.

*A 'Hybrid' card, scrapbook page, or gift, means that part of the elements are created digitally and parts are paper, ink & "real" embellishments.

Obviously, there new initial will be "B". That part, along with the Mr. & Mrs and hearts, were created digitally and then layered onto other papers {shimmery silver, Sage Shadow, & Perfect Plum-they were also embossed using the Big Shot}.

Because why shouldn't the envelope have a little "pretty" added, too.

Designer Magnetic Clothespin Set Tutorial

Designer Magnetic Clothespin Set Tutorial
I created these as a smaller affordable gift that I could sell at my craft shows and online at my etsy shop. But they are easy to duplicate and kids & parents could probably work together to make them.

It's a great little gift for a teacher or nursery worker, co-worker, secret pal, etc.

Things you need:
Different scraps of paper. I used Stampin' Up Designer Series Paper, which is double sided with coordinating designs and colors. You don't need much at all so it is a great way to use up those scraps!

White Glue, of some sort. I have found Elmer's 'Glue All' works really well and seems to be very different than their school glue in relation to paper.

Clothespins I left mine natural but you could add a step and spray paint them white, black or another coordinating color. I have bought mine at Target & Walmart and they are generally around 50 for $2 or less. They are normally found where they sell ironing boards.

Magnets {Optional but definitely adds value to the gift} Michaels or Home Depot.

E-6000 or Hot glue to adhere magnets.

*{Adult} Cut the paper to the desired length & height that works with your clothespins. I used a paper trimmer. I believe these are standard so what I cut was 3/8" by 3 1/4". It will be slightly thinner than the clothespin but that seems to work better than if it is larger and you have to trim.

*Adhere the paper with glue. Kids could totally help with this part. I put paper on both sides for a finished look but, obviously, the back will not show much so you could skip that step. After the glue dries..

*Adhere the magnet and set them to aside to dry, especially if you use the E-6000 glue. *Make sure there is a space between them or the magnets might be attracted to each other and shift on your clothespin. {voice of experience..}

I did a set of 3 clipped to a place card with coordinating cardstock adhered to the front.

I put the set in a cello bag with a topper stapled on and ready for gifting.

I love to design things on the computer. At my old job, one of my fave parts was creating the brochures, postcards, and invites for the various ministries and events I worked with there.

I generally use My Digital Studio for a lot of what I create. However, due to the copyright laws from Stampin' Up, I am not allowed to sell [or give away free] a duplicate-able PDF. I can create it on MDS, print it out, and mail it. I may start offering themes and custom orders on etsy in the near future using this option. Though using MDS, makes it much easier, it was also fun to do this from scratch.

I am weird like that. ;)

I have seen a lot of free printables on other sites so I thought I would create something for my readers {friends}, too. I created the background design along with the actual items to punch or cut out on the computer, the Pages Mac program to be exact. No one else's designs but mine.

Supplies needed:

Sharp scissors, small preferred

Glue gun and toothpicks for the cupcake topper

straw or toothpick and a dab of hot glue for quick assembly

1 3/4 inch scallop circle punch or circle punch, string & skewers for the banner

Cake, cupcakes, pies or sandwich and a happy appreciated Dad!

Sandwich {or cake/pie} banner

Hope you can see how I split the skewer a bit, tied a know, and I added just a dot of hotglue for extra sturdiness. I used fishing line.

Drink Flags

This is using a 2 3/8 scallop circle punch, which is slightly larger than I would suggest but my 1 3/4 scallop circle punch is missing. Work with what ya got!

Other Options: 1 3/8 circle punch with the printables and the 2 3/8 scallop circle of deco paper OR{center} 1 3/8 circle of printable and 2 3/8 scallop circle punch of Chocolate Chip Cardstock. The left and center picks have a finished look since the toothpick is in the middle of 2 pieces of cardstock.

Scrappin' Pages for Someone Else

Despite selling paper products for 9+ years with Stampin' Up, I am not a huge scrapbooker.

I aspire to be but haven't quite made it there.

I like card making and gifts because they can usually be completed in a day or so.

Scrapbooking can be a lifetime commitment.

But we had dear friends from church ask if I could help them with a project and I couldn't say no.

They had been asked to create a page or 2 each to be combined with the rest of the family and given to the Mother/Grandmother of them all. Great idea except they didn't have the equipment, experience or supplies so they turned to me.

They did have an idea of the words or pictures to be inserted, so that was a great help!

The first set I created for "C", she had made when she was younger. It was larger and on poster board but she wanted a mimic of this creation she had made for/about her grandfather & their farm.

So using a 12 X 12 of real red cardstock, I created this

I trimmed it in ribbon for a finished edge and then mounted it onto some Designer Series Paper primarily the Chocolate Chip color.

I cut away the green poster board but saved the jute twine, which she had requested.

I then tried to assemble them similar to what they had been, using 3-D glue dots to create height.

She had a few more pictures and a poem she wanted included, as well. So using the coordinating paper from {retired} Bella Rose Designer Series Paper, I did a second page spread.

The 2 pages below were done for "C's" Mom & Dad. We love them. Such a wonderful couple with servants' hearts. Blessed to know them and have them at our church.

"D" was in the military so his page was heavy with that theme. I basically just mounted each item/picture and gave them different heights using the 3-D glue dots.

"A" wrote a poem and each part connected to one of the pictures she included. I love that she expressed that this woman was more than an "In-law". She also said how proud she was to be "D's" wife. What a wonderful thing for any wife to say. You can see why we love them!

They all kind-of coordinated, with bits from the Bella paper and Real Red running through each. I know the templates and designs aren't going to win any awards, but they loved it and that is all that matters in the end.

The end to this story is that while they were up visiting this Mother for her 90th birthday, and giving her this amazing giftbook of pages from her entire family, she passed away shortly after.

I am sure she enjoyed spending time turning the pages created about her family, even if it was for a little while. What a blessing they were able to have by coming together to celebrate her.

I know how much my grandma loved to look at all the cards she received at her 85th birthday. She also passed away shortly after we all came together to celebrate.

I was honored to be a part of helping them share a little of themselves and what this lady meant to them. Thanks, "W's", for asking me.

Flowers That Don't Fade

I showed this project back on Mother's Day.

I made it for my mom and promised a tutorial.

I used this Sizzix Big Shot and Flower Folds die to create the white flowers, various circle and scallop circle punches for the pictures, along with the items pictured to make it.

When I do this again, I will purchase a stronger variety of wire. This wire was $1 but they also had a stiffer green wire for the same price which I would recommend. You could paint it or deal with it being green. Michael's or other crafty stores probably have an even better choice. I got all of these at Walmart because I was short on time. The bag of shell bits looked like mother of pearl, which my mom loves. It was $5. The vase says "Family" on it but I couldn't quite capture it. It was only $2 in the section where they sell the reeds & oils for those type of DIY air fresheners, near the craft department. The small opening lends itself perfectly for this project and they had a nice variety of shapes and sayings on the front, all in the suprising $2-$3 range.

I cut numerous white flowers using the die, probably about 20. I used mainly the 3 smaller flowers, not the largest contained on the die. I would also do about 10 instead for the next project so all can be seen easier. I had printed so many, I got carried away!

I printed the various photos in regular 4 X 6 and wallet sizes, so I could have a variety of sizes for the photo "flower centers".

I adhered the photos that were punched out to the centers of the white. I used Elmers Glue-All. Double Stick tape would have been fine, too. Then for the back, so it had a finished look, I punched out yellow centers. My mom loves daisies, so this mimics them. I glued the sticks to the yellow using hot glue. It's stiffer and dries instantly.

You could have used additional pictures instead, especially if you had a lot of people to include.

I filled the vase using a funnel with the shell bits. They were near the craft department, too. Our Walmart is all messed up right now for a {another} remodel but all of this type product [sands, stones, etc] was near the flowers for arrangements. Sand was cheaper but this was super shimmery. Sorry the picture doesn't capture it well.

Like I said, I really did too many flowers but my mom loved it just the same. I included not only shots of each of the kids, together and separate, pics of her with them and of our little family of four but even my grandma and aunts, too.

{weird overview}

I think this would be a great gift for a whole family to give to a grandmother with all her grandchildren [or great grandchildren], one on each flower.

Another idea I thought was the class mom gathering shots of each child in a class to give to the teacher, especially the younger grades.

I used Whisper White cardstock for the flowers and various yellows like Daffodil Delight & Yo Yo Yellow [because I didn't have a lot of either].

This would be cool to do with Designer Series Paper to match your house, especially the newer Black & Vanilla papers I am currently obsessed with [see here].

I made a paper flower arrangement 16 months ago for Abigale's Sip & See party using the heart punch [if you didn't yet have the Sizzix, this would be a good alternative]. I used them over for her 1st birthday, because paper flowers never fade!

So this is the finished project. I hope you make your own, using whatever tools you have.

Elmo Punch Art Card

I did this card this morning for a dear friend's sweet little daughter.

She was celebrating her 2nd birthday and the party's theme was Elmo, of course!

I used the Sizzix Scallops Circle #2 Bigz die, 1 inch circle punch, 3/4 inch circle punch, 1 1/4 inch circle punch, & 1 3/8 inch circle punch. I hand cut the felt mouth.

The side dot strip is a bit of retired paper featuring apples that I use for all my teacher projects but the name of the DSP escapes me right now.

I used my alphabet set and Basic Black Craft ink to stamp out her name to add more personalization.

I hope she likes it. I know her mom will! :)

These notebook holders are great for the purse because they safely hold your notepad & pen and are easy to grab out!

They are made from Clear Stamp Cases that I purchased from Stampin Up.

I then crafted each liner with different Designer Series Papers that are double sided [so the inside is pretty, too!]. Inside will include a notepad & pen.

Other uses for this could be

coupons & list planned to be used for that shopping trip {currently I have them folded in a paper..this would be much better!}
keeping greeting cards in for each month's birthdays
keeping a list for Christmas shopping needs

I am sure you can come up with a lot of creative ways to use it!

Can Metal Butterflies Fly?

Using Aluminum Cans with your Sizzix Big Shot

I am on a mission to create something in a large bulk and inexpensive but creative, functional & cute. In that process for the other item, I made this:

I cut a pop can using kitchen shears, taking off the top and bottom, being left with a nice sheet of aluminum. I recommend rinsing it first so it is not so sticky.

I cut it out using Beautiful Butterflies Stampin' Up Sizzix Bigz Die.

After cutting it out with this die, I ran it through the Big Shot again but this time embossing it, rather than cutting, using Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

I bent it a little too look more like a natural butterfly and then adhered it to a clip.

{this is what the die looks like, by the way}

Voila! Ready to go! Now my mind is racing with what I can do next with this new medium!

My littles will have an Easter basket..probably 2 because Grandma just can't help herself.

{Yes. Last year she got him this tricycle for Easter, along with a basket full of cars and candies. What can I say..first grandchild.}

As we put together the She's Crafty~A One Day Artisanal Boutique, we wanted it to be more than just a place to shop, but a place to give back something, too.

So we decided to gather candy & trinkets that would be given to the Florida Baptist Children's Home House Parents so they could give it to the kids they take care of in their Easter baskets.

There are 70+ kids there so that is a lot of baskets!

Please help us by donating individually wrapped candies and treats like those pictured below.

Already filed Easter eggs would be greatly helpful, too.

I know Target and Walmart have a great collection of goodies packaged like you would buy to give to classmates. Family Christian usually offers things like this, too.

Butterfly Mobile Using Beautiful Butterflies Sizzix Die

I saw a similar mobile on etsy. Apparently, the inspiration from that came from one in a Pottery Barn catalog. Pottery Barn was probably inspired by something someone handcrafted..the cycle continues.

It is true so often that there is nothing new under the sun sometimes.

At any rate, since I am a papercrafter and have A LOT of paper..I new I could totally make this myself!

My daughter's bedroom is pink, celery, & chocolate with butterfly accents. So this was a perfect match for her new place.

I used my handy-dandy Sizzix Big Shot and Beautiful Butterflies die cut.

I used Sending Love Designer Series Paper which is actually retired but they are currently selling it in the clearance section and I love a bargain. I also used a few other pink & brown papers from quite a few years back that Stampin' Up designed.

I utilized my Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Perfect Polka Dots folder, as well, for a variety of textures and looks. It's subtle but I like details.

The Stampin' Up! colors used in this are Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, and Chocolate Chip.

I wanted a brass ring as the base but they were out so I improvised with the inside of an embroidery hoop. I painted it with her wall paint for a perfect match.

The ribbon is Pink Pirouette and also in the Stampin' Up Clearance section.

The cutting out part took all of 5 minutes at the most with the awesome dies. The longest part was threading the butterflies onto the embroidery thread [pale pink and super cheap]. I knotted on the bottom and went back and added a dot of glue. I punched the mini-hole with a brad-size 1/16th hand held punch but you could have used a large needle for a smaller hole and glue might not have been needed.

I was pleased with the results and look forward to creating something for Jesse's room with the other part of the embroidery hoop.

Valentine's Hybrid Cards

I got a call from a friend today that needed 12 cards for Valentine's Day. Since I knew I would definitely see her tonight at church and Vday was only days away, I promised to get them done tonight!

Enter My Digital Studio!

Hybrid Digital Papercrafting is where you design using digital media then, after printing, you embellish with elements like ribbon, glitter, dimensionals, etc.

Here is what I designed, then printed:

I then cut the pieces [now the focal point of the card] apart. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to raise them up over simple borders of stamped cardstock or Designer Series Paper. On some, I embellished further with Stampin' Glitters.

Abigale's 1st Birthday Party

So Miss Abigale turned One Year Old last week. How did that happen? Anyway, since I just had to incorporate papercrafting into her birthday party, I thought it would be perfect to share it on the blog. Maybe someone else can get some inspiration, too!

Abigale's Birthday invite I created using My Digital Studio from Stampin' Up!

Flowers are made using heart hand held punch along with circle and scallop circle of her newborn pictures.

Boy Favors [No stamping and very simple. Frankly because I realized I had way more boys than I thought and I didn't think they wanted the prissy butterfly favor boxes anyway!]

This was the handmade part of the favors [the rest is typical boy-bugs & a ball, girl- big ring and candy all around...and raisins [because sometime you have to be "that mom" a little bit at least.] Used the Beautiful Butterflies Sizzix die because it cuts through fabric beautifully and quickly!

The frilly girly boxes made using the Fancy Favor Box die for the Sizzix Big Shot from Stampin' Up. And the Beautiful Butterfly die as well. Some I used an embossing folder on, too, for different looks and textures.

The butterfly looks wilted after washing and not sewing on properly but there really is a butterfly on her #1. A better view from her lovely One Year Old Pictures, taken beautifully by the talented Karissa Barber of K.Barber Photography:

Hair Flower Tutorial using Sizzix Big Shot

I have finally been able to get back into the swing of PaperCrafting things! After getting together with my upline and friend, the awesome Beckie Kareck, when she was visiting this area, I was inspired to try this flowering hair accessory.

Here is my Stampin' Up Big Shot with the fabric already loaded and ready to cut. I learned that you can cut 8 layers of cotton at a time!! To make this project, though, you have to use synthetic fabric like polyester or nylon. Also, notice the Melon Mambo paper..used as a shim, it makes the die cut perfectly through, no ravels.

I used the Scallops #2 to get these 2 different sized scallop circles. I used shear fabric with glitter and sparkly black. This was hair bling for a wedding but I have since because comfortable with wearing it all the time. Sequins in the daytime is hip right now, don'tcha' know. ;)

Now you want to use a surface that won't melt and I thought the bottom of a pot would be perfect. And you need something long and heat resistant to hold down the scallop cirlces..which led me to a wooden spoon. Now get your heat tool [normally used for embossing] and put it less than an inch from the fabric. YES, an INCH, not the 7 inches we normally tell you so you don't scorch your paper. The point is to melt the fabric to get the rustic rough edge. As it melts, keep moving the fabric with the spoon so you can heat around each edge. It might smoke but that stops quickly. As many times as Beckie has done them, she said she hasn't had any fabric catch on fire yet! ;)

This is the circles after melting each of them.

These are the supplies used: Fabric, synthetic I did 5 layers to get 10 scallop circles, of which I used 7 or 8. Clear Rhinestone Brads. The Sizzix Big Shot and the Scallop Circle #2 die, as mentioned before. I then attached the finished flower to a hair pin by sewing but easily could have adhered it to a pin.

Okay, flash makes a bad close-up. But you get the idea. This is the finished product.

So this is why I have been on a 6 month hiatus of my blog. I do apologize but life is much busier with 2 babies. I know everyone said it would be, but somehow I was surprised by it.. ;)
Abigale Dearie had her first breath on January 20, 2010. After being induced twice [yes 2 times, and ask me about my VBAC!], we were so glad to hold her! Do to the swine flu outbreak, children were not allowed in the hospital so Jesse met his sister at Gigi & Grandma's and he has loved her dearly ever since! They are so good together and he warms my heart daily at how he cherishes her.

5 projects for $10 dollars! We will make 2 Christmas note cards, a Jumbo PaperClip Bookmark, “Rudolph’s Repair Kit”, Covered Popcorn Gift, & a tile magnet. [3X3 note cards not pictured]

Everything is precut and ready to assemble. All you need to bring is a tube of E-6000 adhesive.
Registration required by December 4th so enough kits are created.

The fun part should be trying to emboss the magnet in a restaurant! haha! Luckily they have plugs on most walls for computers.
As this is a “Ladies’ Night Out” class, it is adult’s only. Class can be duplicated in your home for your friends, as well. Contact me for available dates!

Build a Bear Creations

Whew! I swore I was going to drown in Build a Bears as I worked on these in bulk! The cut out Build a Bears were created using the Sizzix Big Shot and the 2 BAB dies from Stampin up for the body & outfits.

My mom would bring a ziploc bag with a folded coloring page but this was more compact and much cuter! haha It contains 10 coloring sheets, double-sided with 3 crayons. 3-D Tree Ornament

Can you believe how fast November is going? I can't!
Wanted to share this quick little ornament that has been selling well at my craft shows. It is made using the SU Full Heart punch, coasters, Designer Series Paper [retired SU] and some stamping. I stamped JOY in this one, others have Merry Christmas. I punched 3 hearts from the Old Olive cardstock. I actually stamped a Christmas tree over and over in the old oilve ink but you can't quite see it in this pic. Though it might need some depth/design. I also ripped a wee bit of Creamy Caramel paper and rubbed it in Chocolate Chip ink for character to make the tree trunk. I scored down the middle of the tree to get a crisp fold and then glued them together. The star is a brad with the brad part snipped off. A button could easily be substituted. I covered a paper coaster with the DSP, allowed to dry, then buffed off the edges. I also rolled the edges in Old Olive Craft ink to give a finished look. After all the adhering and stamping, I covered the entire thing in Triple Thick Sealant to make sure the tree would stand up to time. I then adhered the ribbon loop to the back with E-6000.

If you already have this punch, this is a great project with little cost other than time!

Holiday Dog Treats

Hello! Anyone who knows us, knows we are crazy dog lovers. So who better to do a treat bag for to sell at the craft fairs then dogs!?

To make the dog treat bags more special, I purchased Milk Bones then jazzed them up with "dog-safe" decorations.

I purchased white candy coating [lots of brands do it] from the baking aisle. White "chocolate" actually contains no chocolate and is therefore safe for doggies since it doesn't contain the cacao that is bad for them. In fact, you will find it will say "White Candy Coating" or White Chips" even though they sell them with the rest of the chocolate. **Now if the dog had a sugar problem, these would not be for him, of course.

I grew up at Willy Wonka's, I always say, because my mom made chocolate and sold to area offices & other customers as a side biz for the different candy-coated holidays. So working with chocolate is second nature to me. Definitely, warm in micro on low for small increments [like 50% power for 45 seconds at a time until it is melted and smooth,]
The sprinkles are also from the baking aisle for cupcakes.

I just laid the Milk Bones all out flat on sheet pan and drizzled them with the melted white coating back and forth then quickly sprinkled the confetti and placed the whole thing in the fridge to set up quickly.

If you live in a warm climate and the show was outside, you might have a prob but otherwise they should be just fine. Definitively, don't leave them in the car ;).

I actually got the treat bags from Target in the party/gift bag section and trimmed abotu 1.5 inches off the top. Those were the perfect size for 4 small bones across. They have the treat bags at Michael's, too, in the baking/Wilton aisle.

The topper actually utilized My Digital Studio. I do not have this dog stamp set but it was included in MDS so I could print off the size I wanted [to fit the 1 3/8 punch]. The scallop punch utilized retired Christmas DSP from SU. I also stamped dog paw prints on the back for a completed look. For the greeting, I used the one that came with the set and stamped mini bones on it. I also did one for the holidays, "Bark, Bark, Bark, [Happy Holidays!]". I overlayed the text box with the holiday sentiment on the hydrant from MDS stamp set.

I sold a ton of these at last week's fair at Christ UMC and hope to sell just as many or MORE at the fairs I have this weekend!

Recipe Holder

Hello! This is my latest creation for upcoming craft fairs. An Apron shaped Recipe Card Holder.
I created & cutout a template from poster board so the base would be a bit thicker than SU CS. Since they were handcut, each one is a little different than the next which I thinks adds to their charm. :)I then painted several coats of white acrylic paint to add to the thickness/sturdiness. For some I added additional painting of red or brown.
Then I added the embellishments: whether it was stamping, embossing or CS punch "pockets" with different cooking related buttons in them that I snipped the backs off of. I then sprayed Triple Thick Glaze over the front. I added an additional rectangle of the White HD CS that comes with SU CS for additioanl sturdiness. And then with E-6000, adhered the clothepin to the back. For the "Apron neck", I used matching ribbons glued on 1 side and then a small pice of velcro at the other side [all with E-6000]. I did this so they would work for folks with any kind of door handles.Since this was all from scratch and trial & error, they took many more steps & much more time than it probably would next time..if there is a next time! ;) hahaI plan to sell them at upcoming craft shows for $4. Wish me luck!

No Two Snowflakes Are Alike

Hello! Just wanted to share with you a recent project for Christmas ornaments. I have been selling them at my art/craft fairs but I think it would be a great project to do at home with the kids as sweet & simple gifts, tree decorations, or even package decorations.

Recently, Stampin' UP! added a "Clearance Rack" to my online store and since I LOVE a bargain, I definitely went to shopping! These projects use the Little Felt Flurries Accents & Elements & Big Felt Flurries Accents & Elements from that section.

I adhered them together with my fave adhesive for everything, E-6000. I am not sure if Elmer's/Tacky glue works on felt very well since, in my experience, it hasn't adhered well [thinking if you were to do this with kids]. Hot Glue would work on this project, except maybe for the finer cut snowflakes that need tiny dots of glue.

The Rhinestone Brads are from SU, as well, and I love these to add a little bling to cards, scrapbooks and now Christmas ornaments! The half back pearls are from the Pretties kit from SU. For the brads, I would cut down or off the "brad stem" part so that it didn't show through the intricate designs.

The hanging string is embroidery floss in gold metallic and/or platinum depending on the center embellishment.

Scrabble Tiles Necklace Pendants

Hello! Sorry for my break from blogging there for a bit. Back to business!
I wanted to show my latest little fun creation. After receiving one of these as a "Welcome to Steering for MOPS", I was inspired and encouraged to try to duplicate for my shows. Here is what I did..I am sure there are a ton of other ways to achieve similar results.
These little necklace pendants are created from Scrabble tile game pieces. Some people have the "game side" show but I chose to cover that part up so the back was plain wood. All papers are SU's Designer Series Papers, of course. The tile is about 3/4 inches by 3/4 inches so you definitely need a small decorative paper design.
The hardest part was finding the silver "bails". Luckily, [since I was on a time crunch] a local bead shop happened to have ordered them for someone else who hadn't picked them up yet. You can definitely find them online but for this first batch, I couldn't wait for shipping time.
I used E -6000 adhesive to adhere the paper to the front and eventually [after all glazing was done] to adhere the bail to the back.
After applying the paper onto the scrabble, I used Krylon's Triple Thick Glaze [in a jar]. I coated them about 12-15 times within one week to get the best glassy glaze look and strong coverage for the tile. I actually found the TTG at Pat Katan's in Ohio but a similar item/diff brand was in my local Michael's.
Some I embellished with SU [retired] flower punches for a 3-D effect and added SU rhinestone brads, as well. I recommend snipping off the brad part because I found it raised the flowers more than I wanted for coverage purposes.
These items are not recommended for wearing in pool or shower because though glazed heavily, it is still paper. And paper +water=bad news, in general. :)
I have been selling these at area craft shows for $6 & to friends for $5. I include a ribbon necklace with a button on one side and a loop [that could be adjusted to shorten] on the other side which I did for display or instant wear purposes. These would be great on a silver circle necklace, as well.
IF you are going to make these in bulk for gifts or selling, it is worth your time. For one pendant, the time & supplies are just too much~ IMHO. This would be a great gift though for all the ladies in your family and would be pretty inexpensive, once you found the bails.

*Note, if you don't have the Scrabble game, can't find it at yards sales or thrift stores or find a friend willing to donate, you can go on Hasbro.com and purchase "replacement" parts. It was around $6-7 for 100 tiles. When I run out of my donated ones, I will probably go that route, rather than buying a new game for $15 for no reason. Just trying to help! :)

Stamping on regular tile

Though my coasters are made on rough, unfinished tiles that are porous, here is an idea to use on the finished and much less expensive tile.

You still need to use the permanent Stayz-On inks. It is definitely a little more tricky because the finished tiles are little easier to slip/slide on. I recommend inking the stamp and placing it rubber side up and then pressing the tile into the stamp [generally opposite of what you normally do]. But everyone has to find their own groove. You want to leave at least 10-20 minutes for the ink to dry before handling it, in case you haven't used it in this manner before. The other thing is because it is generally smooth [whether matte or shiny], the ink is easy to scratch off. I recommend a triple thick clear glaze to either spray or paint over it. Available generally in the more professional paint areas of craft stores, though a bit pricey, it will preserve your work better than general clear spray paint. This also helps protest it from not only rubbing off but being wiped away if water/cleaner is used. I always have a note NOT to use water to clean. Though the ink is stated as permanent, it will wash away with water...thus a heavy duty sealant is necessary!

Featured in these pics are my 2 X 2 tile magnets and 6 X 6 trivets. I buy the heavy duty magnets so they really hold stuff well. The trivets are finished with thin foam squares on the back to protect the surface it is placed on. For your info, I sell the trivets for $7 and the tiles for $2.

Stamping on Fabric ~Baby Onesies

Looking for a way to add a little something to that plain shirt? Wondering how to make an easy, lower cost baby gift [rather than those speciality boutique prices]. And as I always say, "handmade gifts earn heartfelt thanks"!

This is one of my biggest sellers at the craft/art fairs I do. Baby Onesies! [They can come with a matching gift card on RQ]

First, I will tell you that you don't have to buy the overpriced small bottles of fabric paint.

You can use the kind that come in little bottles for around $1 and a larger variety of colors. Mostly they will say permanent on them. If you have ever worked on any craft project, spilled some on you and didn't wash it quickly, you know it really is permanent. Which is actually what led me to these...an oops! I love that!

I first did it for a tank I wore for the Stampin' Up Convention while I was pregnant with Jesse. When it lasted after numerous washings, I was sold! [Excuse the cheesy, very-pregnant smile. I was elated to see SU had used a card I submitted on their example board at a regional conference!] :)

I stamp the design, allow it to dry, and then heat set it with an iron and a thin kitchen towel over the design.

Brand Tip: I have found Gerber Onesies run smaller so I often get the Carters or Circo when I can find them plain.

I sell the onesies for $7 at my fairs and online. Special orders available.

Layout copying

This is a great way to come up with a design once and use it in a variety of ways. This particular Pick a Petal set is one that I purchased then rarely used. This one idea has given new use for the entire set!

Making a set of these with different greetings would make a great gift for teachers or Christmas!

I also added a 1 inch circle to the middle and, using our Stampin' Dimensionals, popped it up for height & interest. I covered it in 2 way glue than glittered. Then came back with the TomBow adhesive and outlined the edge and put a center dot and glittered again. Since the TomBow is thicker it gave an added dimension to the glitter effect and I LOVE my glitters!

Using Templates

This is an example of using templates to create pretty different looking cards. I was inspired by one of the latest "A La Card templates" from the magazine demos get from Stampin' Up [Stampin' Success].

I encourage you to look at cards in the Idea Books and other places and pick out the basic set up of the card and then replace with your own stamps, inks, colors & accessories! You can always copy a card exactly if you have all the exact materials [which I never quite seem to have]. But this is way to utilize what you have and not have to come up with it completely on your own!

Mom's Birthday Gift

This is a gift for my mom's birthday and my first hand at using SU's Decor Elements. I put the words on the outside of the frame [11X14] and then got to work on the background. I wanted it to be decorative but muted at the same time and the Designer Series Paper I thought I would use just seemed like it was more the star than the words.

So I decided to use Very Vanilla 12 X 12 paper [cutting off 1 inch] with the large swirl stamp from Baroque Motifs, versamark ink & clear embossing powder. Then for the sides I wanted another muted color that would blend with my mom's house. So I pulled out Blush Blossom which, admittedly, I never use for some reason. I used the cherry blossom stamp from Eastern Blooms, along with the VersaMark ink and Clear Embossing Powder again. This time I added some glue and microbeads to some of the flowers for a little detail if you looked up close. Couldn't be too embellished since it was a normal flat frame. I know she will love it and can't wait to give it to her today!

Pop- UP Gift Card Holder

This is a gift card holder for a fun wedding shower we went to for dear friends. Wanted to make it something special. I have to admit that in the process of figuring out the measurements and the look, etc, I spent 2 hours on this one card. I have gotten used to quicker cards but it was nice to squeeze out my creative juices, so to speak!

This is a close up the details. The popcorn used a [retired] 3 flower punch from SU. I highlighted the So Saffron paper with White Craft ink to add a little depth. The green peppers & design on the cups were made with green Stickles.

The pop-up part used 8 inches long of Whisper White, scored at 1 inch intervals, than accordion folded. We included a gift card to Blockbuster & Papa John, put in the appropriate pop-up, of course. I used tiny manila envelopes as the base and covered them with the design on the front

and finished with plain CS on the back.

I will generally only use SU paper & products [investing in my own business, don't ya know!], but indicate where it is another brand, when necessary.

Things I Learned on Vacation

Things I have observed & learned while being away from home for 4 out of 9 weeks this summer in no certain order:

Doing 2 trips of 2 weeks, 3 weeks apart, was a dumb move but done as an honest mistake..thought we were making the right decision for the right reasons.
It is quite difficult to plan a party 1800 miles away without help..in fact, it didn't happen. Next year..note to self, ask for help!
Though the "going away party" planned for the first leg of this trip fizzled..I wouldn't trade anything for being able to see my guys in concert with those amazing seats!! It is always great to be "Young & Insane" every now and then!
You never know how much you take things for granted like consistent internet access, holding your hubby's hand, and your own bed ~ till you are gone for that long away from them.
I didn't realize I was as protective a mother until I got around so many random relative's children [diff ages, dispositions, upbringing, etc.] ...I also took for granted how well our friends' kids treated each other, & that I didn't worry there.
I really miss hanging and talking with Yabette [or as I knew her growing up, Beth Ann ;)]. Time just goes too fast but we pick up a conversation like it was yesterday.

It is sad to see some of the older relatives and how much they age each year. You never know who won't be here next year...
It was nice to have little responsibilities while there and I got to work on my own stampin' projects that have been neglected for too long. I took classes, went to crops, paper crafted until 1 am some nights, and leave here feeling creative and ready to get back to business!
It is hard to be in a house with 3 women for 4 weeks. No matter how much you love each other..
Everyone has their own story if you take some time to listen.
I love having a church home-away-from-home. Thanks Crossroads Community Church in Doylestown for making us feel welcome each year!
I miss my dogs, my computer, my house, my friends, my church, my stampin supplies, but most of all my dear sweet husband! Can't wait to get home and into his loving arms.
I will come back next year but for one week only probably..after that, you just wear out your welcome no matter how much they want you there! ;)
It was great to take off and explore the day with my son..need to make more time for that.
I am ready to go home!

Altered Stone Coasters

Making a Set of Altered Stone CoastersI use Stayz-On permanent ink, which soaks in enough that you don't need to seal it and it won't run when wet. I used Upsy Daisy as the main stamp and various greetings. I do put it in the oven at 400 for about 10 minutes for my own satisfaction, though I have heard it is not needed. The tiles are bought in packs of 9 at Home Depot for about $5. i sell them at Art Festivals $14 for the set of 4.

Have to add my Hand Stamped stamp on the back, both to comply with SU policy when selling AND so you know it was hand crafted by me, too! :) Finished with felt tabs so it doesn't damage anything. TFL.

ReCycled File Folder

This is a rough draft of this project. As a SU demonstrator, we receive a magazine each month with great ideas and one caught my eye this month. I altered the idea by using a plain [used] Legal size File Folder. I am on vacation so I don't have my paper stash so I made due with what I could find! ;)VERY Bland inside..can you tell it was used?! ;) I would stamp and embellish the inside and outside more if I were at home. Look forward to doing a "prettier" version of this later!

I would add some kind of mantra or whatever on the label, too. This was actually made for a possible craft for our MOPS group so [if this was used] we would put the logo/theme for this year there. TFL.

Julia's Shower Gift

I wanted to make something special for a personal bridal shower for a dear friend. I have kept this pop bottle in my window for probably a year, just knowing it would be a perfect Altered Gift using her new intials! I used "You're Fabulous" [Retired] SU set, water color wonder crayons, Pearl Ex powder, & various ribbons/accents. It is filled with handmixed bath salts with lavender buds. I incude a "Bath Tea Bag" to fill with the mixture to steep in a bath.

I also used a small candle and did a belly band around it with matching accents.
